As a student of Creative Digital Media Level 6 in St. John's Central College. Each of us in our class were required to make a short animated sequence featuring kinetic text.
The slideshow above goes through the process from the initial storyboard, to the last animation. The finished product can be found down below
For this assignment, I chose the second verse of Jimi Hendrix’s song called ‘Purple Haze’. I envisioned a hippie-ish theme to it, with bright, contrasting colours, and a curved font, but make sure it isn’t curved too much so that it can still be easily read on screen, even in motion. In the end I went with: Gill Sans Ultra Bold Condensed
The lyrics for my chosen section are as follows:
"Purple haze, all around
Don't know if I'm comin' up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
Whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me"
I chose this verse, because there is a colour mentioned, and a lot of words that either describe motion or a feeling that could be portrayed with motion …
I used a lot of different text animation effects for this assignment. Mainly from the ‘Animate in’ and ‘Animate out’ sections. However I did use a few other ones, such as ‘Foggy’ from the ‘Blur’ section, or the ‘360 Loop’ from the ‘Paths’ section.
